Burke and Hare, two infamous grave-robbers were arrested in Edinburgh in January 1829. They hailed from Ulster and made money by exhuming recently buried corpses for sale to the city’s well-known surgical schools. Burke and Hare found murder easier but were caught after the death of their sixteenth victim. Burke was hung but Hare turned King’s evidence and survived.
